Rockwool is another common choice to be the bulk material for manufacturing ceiling tiles. Natural rock is molten and spun into cotton-like fiberous material. These micro fibers are dispersed in a liquid medium with binder material to form a pulp-like mixture. high pressure is applied to this pulp to squeeze out the liquid media. Subsequent drying process turns out the base boards for making ceiling tiles. A layer of coating material is applied to the base boards to get an attractive finish of the surface.
Standard sizes range from 300 x 300 mm (or 12\" x 12\") to 600 x 600 (or 2\' x 2\'). Other sizes are available. Contact Bony for details. Rockwool has excellent fire resistance characteristics. Tiles are perforated with various sizes and patterns and shapes of holes to achieve both aesthetic and acoustic characteristics. Due to high porosity, rockwool tiles have also excellent thermal insulating characteristics.
